How to Care for Your Clip-In Hair Extensions:
- Gently brush your Bright Pre-Colored Clip-In Synthetic Hair Extensions before you wash them to remove any tangles or spray buildup. Use a wig brush, start at the bottom, and slowly work your way up, using short strokes. (A wig brush has been specially designed for wigs and extensions.)
- Wash your Synthetic Hair Extensions regularly, after about 30 uses, or once about every 4-6 weeks, with a wig shampoo and conditioner. Again, using products specifically made for wigs will yield far better results than a regular shampoo and conditioner, as they have been specially formulated to clean the fibers gently and thoroughly.
- Mix a bit of the wig shampoo with some cool water in a sink or basin. Never use a washing machine.
- Soak your hair extensions for about five minutes, longer if they are particularly soiled. Never rub, twist, or wring your hair extensions.
- Dip your extensions up and down in the water after soaking.
- Rinse your extensions gently but thoroughly in cool running water.
- Conditioning your synthetic extensions will restore their original style and help them last longer. To condition your synthetic hair extensions, refill your sink or basin with clean, cool water and add 1-2 capfuls of synthetic wig conditioner. (Synthetic wig conditioner contains specially blended oils that promote softness and bring out the fiber’s luster and mobility.) Immerse your hair extensions in the conditioner solution and gently work the solution through the extensions with your fingers.
- Rinse your extensions gently but thoroughly in cool running water.
- To avoid the weight of the water ruining your extensions— which could stretch the hair extensions’ fibers and ruin their style—use a towel to pat the excess water from your extensions.
- Use a heat protectant on your synthetic hair extensions to reduce the risk of heat damage whenever you use a heating appliance on your hair. You don’t need to apply the heat protectant to the roots of your extensions, just the length and tips. Heat protectants come in spray form and cream form. When using a heat protectant spray, hold the spray as far away from the hair extensions as possible to ensure more even coverage. A heat protectant cream can be worked through the length and ends of wet hair.
- Once you’ve applied the heat protectant, comb through the hair extensions for more even distribution. For even better results, apply the protectant to each individual section before you style it.
- Once a week, carefully put your synthetic hair extensions in lukewarm water and apply a bit of conditioner all over. Keep the conditioner on for around 20 minutes, then rinse the extensions and let them air dry. Using a blow dryer will damage the hair extensions if used too much. If you must use a blow dryer, put it on a cool setting when drying your extensions.
- To avoid damage to the hair ends, trim the ends every 6-10 weeks. You can do it yourself using salon scissors or go to a hairstylist for help.
